Grandma’s Irish Soda Bread



This Irish Soda Bread is the quickest easiest bread recipe you will ever bake.  You’ll find this bread is tasty on the inside yet crunchy on the outside.  Aways double the recipe, eat one loaf and pop the other in the freezer .  Days when unexpected quests stop by, take this out of the freezer, it’ll be thawed and ready to eat shortly after you’ve finished brewing that pot of coffee.  A must bake for St. Patrick’s Day.  Enjoy !



Grandmas Irish Soda Bread
Grandma’s Irish Soda Bread via Sally’s Baking Addiction

Prep Time:  15 mins     Bake Time:  45 mins    Yields:  one loaf


  •  1 and 3/4 cups  buttermilk1
  • 1 large  egg
  • 4 and 1/4 cups  all-purpose flour (plus more for your hands and work surface)
  • 3 Tablespoons ( granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 and 1/2 Tablespoons  unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup  raisins (I use half golden, half regular)
